Parenting in Practice: Kindness & Values

Listen Later

Have you ever wondered how values like kindness, honesty, respect, and acceptance actually show up inside real homes?

In this episode of The Conscious Children Project, five parents from different cultures, ages and family backgrounds share what nurturing children truly looks like the tender moments, the messy ones and the honest conversations in between.

They speak about teaching values not through perfection, but through example, everyday choices and vulnerable moments where they themselves are still learning.

This is an episode filled with real stories, real laughter, and the kind of honesty that reminds us that parenting is a shared human journey.

Why You’re Hearing Parent Perspectives in This Episode

And to complete the circle, our next episode (releasing Dec 18th) brings in children’s voices what they think values mean, how they perceive kindness, honesty, and the ways grown-ups teach them. Together, the three episodes create a full loop: Expert → Parents → Children A 360° look at how values are understood, practiced, and experienced within families.

What You’ll Hear

In this heartfelt roundtable, parents reflect on the values that guide their homes and the challenges that shape them. You’ll hear:

The values that show up most often in their homes

From compassion and integrity to respect, acceptance and open communication, each parent shares the core values they want their children to grow up with.

Parents talk about “white lies,” protecting kids from fear and the tricky balance between truth and kindness. From adding extra food to a plate…to promising ice cream before a hospital visit…to children, uncovering the truth behind the Tooth Fairy These moments open deeper conversations about trust.

You’ll hear stories of parents admitting mistakes, naming their feelings (“I’m tired, not angry”), and using tools like a feelings board to help kids understand emotions.

For some, it’s respect. For others, it’s gratitude, boundaries, or standing up for yourself while still being kind. Every family brings a unique perspective.

Parent Perspective

We heard the expert breaking down values how it should work and some best practices, now we bring focus or attention to real life of what it works in real families struggles , wins , and also bridging the voices perspective of parents , hoping kids listen to will know get why parents act or tell certain way

Following this, children share their opinions in the next episode on Dec 18th to complete the loop: Expert → Parent → Children.
A Few Reflections

  • Children open up when they feel truly heard.
  • Modelling honesty teaches more than demanding it.
  • Kindness needs boundaries; even kids must learn when to prioritize themselves.
  • Telling the truth isn’t always easy, but explaining the “why” builds understanding.

From Shruthi

“These parents reminded me that nurturing children isn’t about getting everything right; it’s about choosing connections again and again.

Every apology, every honest conversation, every moment we admit ‘I’m learning too’ becomes a doorway into trust.”
