No more clock faces for you!
Students just can’t tell time. They can only tell time when they have a digital clock. As a result, some schools are trashing their analog clocks. Those are the clocks with the faces and the numbers and the big hand and the little hand. It’s another wonderful, unintended consequence of the digital age. What will happen when the younger generation can’t read an analog clock and it’s the only one they have? They won’t know what’s going on or at least when it’s going on. Determining what time it is is a critical life skill and should be mastered by the time kids leave elementary school. We adults are slacking off. We’re not requiring our kids to use both ways of determining the time and it’s on us to make sure it happens. Have analog clocks around the house so that your kids are constantly exposed to them. Regularly test your middle schoolers to make certain they don’t get stuck if they don’t have a digital timepiece.
