An operating room cap could save your life
Medical staff in operating rooms wear the same clothes and frankly, most of them look the same. How do they know who’s who? They don’t. An Australian doctor began the “cap challenge” in order to reduce medical mistakes. It’s also fun and easy. Everyone in the operating room writes their name and job on their surgical caps. Since many doctors work in multiple hospitals, they’re not always sure who’s on their team which can lead to problems. In the US, there are a quarter million deaths related to medical errors which is the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer. Dr. Rob took a lot of teasing at first such as being asked if he had forgotten his own name. But then, he started buying coffee for those who played along. Everyone saw how a simple solution could be so time-saving and life-saving. Now, medical students won’t be mistaken for seasoned surgeons.
