Educated, married Moms have their first baby in spring

Were you able to time the birth of your firstborn?  Did you plan conception to have a spring birth?  Did you do that to avoid the peak of the flu season?  There is a trend among educated, married American Moms to give birth in the spring to avoid the sick season.  Teachers, library workers and those in the training sector also want to give birth in the spring to give themselves more time to spend with baby in the summer considering the short maternity leave of employers.  Most parents used to strive for a summer birth and understanding the new trends helps policy makers to design programs for job flexibility and to meet child health and educational needs.  With the majority of kids being born in the spring, it’s likely that the number of kindergarten and first grade classes will increase to meet the demand.  Parents’ behavior can have far-reaching effects.
