Smartphones and imbalance in the brain
Most of us can’t live without our smartphones. They’re just so helpful. Yeah, we’ve heard about addiction and whatnot, but that’s for teenagers, right? No, you’re not right. If you have an overreliance on technology, whether or not you are “addicted”, your brain becomes unbalanced. This imbalance results in difficulty resisting the impulse to use the phone, irritability when you don’t have access to it, and excessive use to the point where it interferes with work, social activities and health. Sound like you? Those with the highest levels of imbalance also had the highest levels of depression, anxiety, impulsivity and insomnia. The impact is most severe on the developing brains of teens. Because the teen brain is in an intense state of excitement when using the phone for long periods of time, they may run a greater risk of getting Parkinson’s disease.
