Topic - Why Do Antidepressants Take So Long To Work?

 

Some antidepressants can take more than 3 weeks to start working.  Why? 

Chemical rafts are the problem.  These rafts isolate the proteins responsible for talking to other cells so the proteins can’t do their job. 

I have visions of these proteins jumping on a raft and taking a snooze.  They’re not working! 

Taking an SSRI type of antidepressant like Prozac, Zoloft or Lexapro, causes the protein to jump off the raft and get back to work by increasing the communication between the cells. 

Depression can happen when the brain gets low on serotonin, the brain’s naturally-occurring antidepressant.  

SSRIs or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors make serotonin more available for absorption.
