Topic - Magnetic Sixth Sense
Humans likely tap into a magical sense that honeybees, sea turtles and migratory birds use to travel long distances. Magnetoreception is the magnetic compass aligned with the Earth’s magnetic fields. Testing using the protein from a human retina proved that we’re able to detect magnetic fields, but while it serves as a magnet sensor, it’s unclear if we actually use it as a compass. We do know that when there are disruptions in the Earth’s magnetic fields, people report sleep problems, mental confusion, a lack of energy or feeling on edge. When the fields are stable and solar activity increases, we report positive feelings, creativity and inspiration, likely due to a coupling between the human brain, heart rhythms and the nervous system. Extreme solar activity has been linked to some of humanity’s greatest creations of art and our most tragic events.
