Topic - You Can Catch Cavities

You can catch the bacteria that causes cavities.  You can infect your kids when you share forks, spoons, glasses and food, kiss them on the lips, or blow on their food.  Parents with active tooth decay can infect their children.  Babies are most vulnerable when they are teething and the tooth enamel is very soft.  Other factors include genetics, oral hygiene and letting babies suck on a sippy cup or bottle with juice or other sugary drinks for long periods of time.  The study indicated that mothers who chew on sugar-free gum starting at sixth months of pregnancy and who have their teeth cleaned during the second and third trimester are less likely to infect their kids.  Dentists advise cleaning baby’s mouth out at every diaper change to reduce cavities.  Dental hygiene begins for both parent and child in infancy.
