Fr. Bob Johnson was born on Our Lady of the Rosary’s Feast Day, October 7th, 1963 in Dearborn Heights, Michigan to Robert and Julia Johnson. Along with his brother, Bill, he attended St. Sebastian Catholic Grade School, followed by Divine Word High School, Perrysburg, Ohio, run by the Society of the Divine Word.
Fr. Bob studied at Divine Word College, Epworth, Iowa, and Nanzan University in Nagoya, Japan. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in English. During his novitiate year, he worked on the Addiction Unit of the Veterans’ Hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Father Bob began his graduate studies at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, Illinois, and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Divinity with Mission Concentration. During this time, he did his Clinical Pastoral Education at Harper-Grace and Children’s Hospitals in Detroit, and also studied music at St. Joseph’s College Summer Program in Rensselaer, Indiana.
Fr. Bob was ordained in 1992, and for the next twenty years was assigned to the Caribbean island of Antigua where he was an associate pastor and taught music, English, theology, and was chaplain, vice principal and homeroom teacher in the Catholic schools. He assisted in various parishes on Antigua and throughout the Caribbean. He became the music examiner for the public schools, and helped found the Music Teachers Training Department at the Antigua State College. During this time he was also the local religious superior of the SVD community for six years and a diocesan consultor for the Bishop.
In November 2017, he joined the Miramar Retreat House Staff in Duxbury, MA assisting at St. Joseph’s Parish, Kingston, MA along with giving parish missions and various retreats to all age groups. He was assigned as administrator to Our Lady of the Woods Parish, Woodhaven, MI beginning on July 1st, 2019. He now is a priest in Solidum at St. Roch, Flatrock; Our Lady of the Woods, Woodhaven; Sacred Heart, Grosse Ile; St. Cyprian, Riverview.
