Part 2: Interview tactics: Finding The Right Talent: Tips For An Effective Interviewing Process With Dr Tony Aitichison

Listen Later

In this episode, Dr Tony Aitichson from Paradelta Strategy talks to Ron Fiedler from Podcast City Radio about the importance of preparation when it comes to interviewing candidates for a job.

Dr Tony outlines the importance of being prepared, noting that it is respectful to know who you are interviewing and that it is important to remember that the interview is a two-way street and the candidate may not want to work with the company if there is any display of disrespect.

Additionally, people now care about the kind of company they work for, so it is important to show respect even if the job is the best on the market. In this conversation, Ron and Dr Tony discuss the importance of researching a potential candidate prior to an interview.

They discuss how to go about this research and ways to use the Internet to find out more about a candidate.

Specifically, they suggest looking at the candidate's LinkedIn profile, conducting a Google search for the candidate, and seeing what kind of presence the candidate has on the Internet.

They also suggest that for executive-level positions, having no presence on the Internet can be a red flag and should be taken into consideration when assessing a candidate.

Ultimately, research and preparation are key to finding the best candidate for the job. The episode discussed the importance of properly preparing for an interview, such as making sure that the HR team is well-informed on the position and requirements before conducting initial interviews.

It was suggested that in order to avoid wasting time, the interviewer should pay attention to the candidate's body language, tone of voice, use of I versus we statements, and whether they are using too many keywords without demonstrating real knowledge.

Additionally, it was suggested that psychological tests such as Myers Briggs should not be relied upon, as people are often fluid in their behaviour and the test is outdated, instead, the interviewer should focus on body language, tone of voice, and use of I versus we statements. In this conversation, Dr. Tony Atison from Parrot Delta Strategy and the interviewer discussed the different strategies to evaluate potential candidates during the hiring process. Dr. Tony suggested that the best way to evaluate a candidate is to gauge their tone of voice, their I and we mentality, and how they treat other staff members.

Dr Tony also discussed the pros and cons of group interviews versus individual interviews, stressing that individual interviews are better for roles that are not sales-related.

Finally, Dr Tony suggested that employers can have video conferencing interviews and record them for further evaluation.
