Part 3 - What the F? Our Complicated Relationship with Failure

Listen Later

Today’s episode is the last of our “What the F” series and is one we all tend to avoid like the plague, failure. Naturally, none of us want to fail at anything that we do and often emotions such as blame and shame are attached to our failures in the workplace. The Harvard Business Review did a study and found that only two to 5% of people’s failures are considered blameworthy vs the 70%-90% that are often found blameworthy in the workplace.

Over the next 43 minutes, I dive into the world of failure from its classical definition to what you should do when failure happens. I chat about the paradigms that exist within failure and the pros and cons around them. I also discuss the emotions that often are attached to failure and how you can navigate them when failure occurs.

In today’s episode, I cover:

  • What actually is failure?
  • How to navigate through a failure in the workplace
  • The role that blame plays when failure occurs
  • Importance of taking accountability and demonstrating leadership
