It’s October! During the month of October Part-Time Fanboy continues its tradition of chatting about horror films during the Halloween season! Every week this month, Part-Time Fanboy welcomes some of their favorite indie creators to pick one of their favorite spooky movies and chat about it on the podcast!

This week Part-Time Fanboy regular Yvis Cannavale chose the not quite-sequel to the Amityville Horror, Amityville 3-D! Last year Yvis brought Amityville II: The Possession to the PTF haunted house. This year he continues to spook up Amityville goodness (or badness) by introducing the third movie in the haunted house franchise. Joe Slepski of the Joe on Joe podcast joins in the fun as Kristian and Yvis try to justify the existence of Amityville in the third dimension!

This week, friend of the podcast and horror writer/critic, Mark L. Miller picks the 1980 cannibal classic, Motel Hell!

Motel Hell tells the story of Famer Vincent Smith and his sister Nancy, who run a motel but are also regionally known for the quality of the meat they sell on their farm. When a biker couple gets into an "accident" nearby, the Smiths takes in the young lady who survives the crash and attempt to assimilate her into their clan. But as she gets closer to the family, it soon becomes clear that the secret to their tasty meat is more sinister than anyone could have ever suspected!

Kristian joins Mark, podcaster Joe Slepski (of the Joe on Joe Podcast), and writer Travis Webb (Starlite) to dig into a film which is one part Psycho, one part Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and could in some ways be a bizarre prequel to Soylent Green!

Robert Saucedo is a film programmer who works out of Houston, Texas. When the COVID pandemic hit, he found himself with a lot of free time because, well, people weren't necessarily going to the movies. That's when Robert decided he would occupy himself by writing a werewolf novel that he would initially only share with his friends via a WordPress blog. Eventually he came up with the idea of taking his novel and making it into an audio drama podcast but when the production of it ended up being too costly, he came up with another idea...he would make it into a comic. He ended up creating Where-Wolf, which debuted as a webcomic on Fangoria's website and gained popularity there for its unique and modern take on the werewolf mythos . This past August he published the sequel, Curse of the Where-Wolf. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian talks with Robert about how he got Fangoria to publish his comic online, why he loves werewolves so much, and why his comic is called Where-Wolf and not Werewolf.

Shane Portman is an Emmy nominated writer who has had a distinguished career working in the animation industry. Recently, Shane turned his talents toward making comic books. When he decided to create a sequential art series he knew he wanted it to reach a bit deeper than your average funny book tale. Shane reached inside and unearthed the painful experience during his youth of his father's heart attack to use as inspiration for his own book. The result of his introspection is Shrub (currently being funded on Kickstarter by Fanbase Press), a tale of a sentient bush that looks to connect to its roots by going on a cross country trip with a grieving pair of siblings who have recently suffered a loss within their own family. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Shane about the loss of both of their fathers, how growing up in a pre-internet age provided freedoms for kids that may not exits in today's world, and how he believes his story can bring awareness to how people grieve and help them deal with grief.

Jason Neulander is a performer, writer, producer, and director. His latest project is a graphic novel update of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson book Treasure Island called Treasure Island Reimagined: Jane Hawkins and the Pirate's Gold. The original novel is a book that is that is very near to his heart as he used to read it to his daughter Scarlett when she was a child. When he began work on his new adaptation, he decided to update the story by making the protagonist a female as a tribute to Scarlett. But his ambition didn't just end with making a comic. He decided to turn his adaptation into a stage show (debuting this Friday at Austin's Historic State Theater) using visual elements from the book projected onto the stage with actors reading the dialogue and performing all of the foley/sound effects for the show...creating a sequential art experience unlike any other. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast Kristian talks with Jason about why he felt he needed to make Jim Hawkins into Jane Hawkins, his history of combining comic books with theatrical productions, and his desire to make this latest graphic novel a visual tribute to fifties era EC Comic books.

Fred Schwartz is a writer who's had a bit of a difficult past. Schwartz is an alcoholic and at one point in his life his addiction became so consuming that he ended up in a coma with severe kidney damage. Luckily, he was able to recover as his body miraculously healed from the harm that alcohol had caused him. Once he was on the road to recovery, he decided it was time to pursue his dream of making comics. It took years but he eventually ended up making Fisticuffs (now funding on Kickstarter), a comic about an irresponsible alcoholic who suddenly becomes endowed with superpowers. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Fred about his downward spiral into alcoholism, how he eventually hit rock bottom, and how he used his own life experiences to tell a fun and compelling story about a man with no moral compass who's been given a unique and powerful gift.

On September 8th, Star Trek celebrates its 60th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, Kristian decided to gather some of the biggest Trek nerds he knew to talk about the Star Trek films featuring the original cast of actors. This week, PTF welcomes Trekker and Kristian's brother-in-law, Dan Twohig, to the bridge of the Starship Part-Time Fanboy to discuss the original 1979 film directed by Robert Wise. They beam up Barry Negrin (Part-Time Fanboy's resident Doctor Who expert and Trek fan) and podcast regular Yvis Cannavale to join in the chat about Star Trek: The Motion Picture. They take a look at the remastered 4K director's edition that was released in 2022 and examine the ins and outs of a film that was not appreciated upon its initial release, but has come to be accepted as a movie that embraces the ethos of the original series possibly more than any of the other films in the franchise.

Matt McGrath is a writer who never really loved horror as a genre. He was always more into sci-fi, fantasy, or superheroes. That changed, however, once he started writing comic books. For one reason or another, most of the projects and anthologies he got involved in were in the horror milieu and eventually he found himself drawn to the darker side of comics. In his latest project, The Acts of Louis Debraz, Voyageur (now funding on Kickstarter), Matt delves into a tale that is one part The Revenant and one part The Exorcist illustrated with a style that is reminiscent of the animation art of Don Bluth. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian sits down with Matt to chat about his new comic, how he got sucked into the world of horror, and how Mike Mignola's Hellboy inspired him to craft a tale about a fur trapper who is on a hunt for the Prince of Darkness himself!
