We welcome a coach correcting our game—but how do we respond when someone challenges our heart?
In this episode of Pass the Rock: Real Talk, Laurence and Brian unpack the phrase “Only God can judge me” and explore the difference between condemnation and loving accountability. From memorable basketball coaching stories to Jesus’ teaching about planks and specks, they discuss how honest feedback, humility, and vulnerability can help us grow—and build deeper friendships.
The guys also get practical about finding trustworthy spiritual mentors, responding when correction hurts, and testing advice through Scripture and prayer instead of accepting it blindly.

You missed the game-winner. Got cut from the team. Fell short again. What does faith look like the morning after?
On this episode of PassTheRock, Lawrence and Brian get real about failure, identity, and staying coachable—on the court and in your walk with Jesus. Brian shares how a painful basketball tryout sparked a new hunger to grow, and the guys explore how to own your mistakes, make room for grace, and remember who God says you are. Plus, they talk blind spots, honest feedback, and why we welcome coaching in sports but sometimes resist it in our faith.

Can you compete with everything you have—and still compete like Jesus?
In this episode of Pass The Rock: Real Talk, Brian and Laurence talk about what Jesus-centered competitiveness looks like through the stories of Trinidad Chambliss and Caleb Williams, their own experiences as athletes, and Paul’s challenge to “run in such a way as to get the prize.”
They unpack intensity, self-control, humility, handling failure, owning your mistakes, and using your athletic platform without letting the platform become your identity. Because the goal isn’t to compete less—it’s to compete with all your heart while remembering who you’re ultimately competing for.

Talent can take you a long way—but nobody wins alone. In this episode of Pass The Rock: Real Talk, Brian and Laurence explore what makes a real teammate, from chemistry and accountability on the court to vulnerability, brotherhood, and spiritual relationships off it.
They challenge athletes to rethink the MVP: What if the most valuable person on your team is the one who helps you get closer to God?

What is the soul—and can you train it like you train your body?
In this episode of Pass The Rock: Real Talk, Brian and Laurence explore the soul of basketball and the soul of the athlete, from Rucker Park and Kevin Garnett to Jesus’ command to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. They discuss how adversity reveals what’s inside us, why prayer and self-denial strengthen the soul, and how basketball’s founder, James Naismith, saw the game as an opportunity to win people to Christ.
Train your body. Train your mind. But don’t forget to train your soul.

Being Spiritually Smart: Navigating AI
AI is getting smarter—but are we becoming smarter spiritually?
In Episode 5, Brian and Laurence explore how Christians can navigate artificial intelligence without losing the thinking, relationships, and spiritual growth God designed us for. Using basketball IQ as a parallel, we discuss preparation, adapting when life doesn’t go according to plan, learning from mistakes, and knowing God’s Word well enough to recognize what’s actually true.
From ChatGPT to Allen Iverson, Magic Johnson, the Bereans, and real-life failures, this conversation challenges us to use AI as a tool without allowing it to replace authentic thought, human relationships, or God’s Word.
Be spiritually smart. Know the game. Know the Word. And always check the source.

Pass The Rock: Real Talk
There are levels to the game—and there are levels to following Jesus.
Using Team USA’s run for Olympic gold as the backdrop, Brian and Laurence talk about what happens as the competition gets faster, the pressure gets greater, and the margin for error gets smaller. They connect lessons from elite basketball—training, knowing your personnel, teamwork, discipline, and execution—to what it takes to mature as a disciple of Jesus.
From relationships and temptation to spiritual training and helping others know God, this episode asks a bigger question: What are you training for?
Because ultimately, the real gold is bigger than a medal.
Faith. Sports. Real Life. Real Talk.

How Does Jesus Recruit? | The Cost of Discipleship
What if Jesus recruited disciples the way college coaches recruit athletes?
In today’s sports world, recruiting often centers on what a program can offer you—playing time, opportunity, facilities, NIL, exposure, and a pathway to the next level. But when Jesus recruited people to follow Him, His pitch sounded radically different:
Count the cost. Carry your cross. Put Me first. Follow Me.
In this episode of Pass The Rock: Real Talk, Brian Dailey and Laurence Willis break down Jesus’ challenging words in Luke 14:25–27 and ask what they mean for athletes, coaches, parents, and anyone trying to live as a disciple of Christ.
Drawing connections between high-level sports and faith, Brian and Lawrence discuss the sacrifice required to become great, the danger of allowing sports or personal ambition to become our greatest treasure, and why Jesus was so upfront about the cost of following Him.
They also explore a powerful question: If we're willing to sacrifice time, comfort, relationships, money, and even our bodies to chase an athletic dream, what are we willing to sacrifice to follow Jesus?
The conversation gets practical, too—challenging athletes to pray before they play, look for opportunities to practice discipleship in competition, deny insecurity and fear, show humility toward opponents and teammates, and allow faith to determine how they compete.

We know what it looks like to be all in for the game. Are we willing to be even more all in for Jesus?
