Publisher's Summary:
Violin prodigy Etta Spencer had big plans for her future, but a tragedy has put her once-bright career at risk. Closely tied to her musical skill, however, is a mysterious power she doesn't even know she has. When her two talents collide during a stressful performance, Etta is drawn back hundreds of years through time.
Etta wakes, confused and terrified, in 1776, in the midst a fierce sea battle. Nicholas Carter, the handsome young prize master of a privateering ship, has been hired to retrieve Etta and deliver her unharmed to the Ironwoods, a powerful family in the Colonies - the very same one that orchestrated her jump back, and one Nicholas himself has ties to. But discovering she can time travel is nothing compared to the shock of discovering the true reason the Ironwoods have ensnared her in their web.
Another traveler has stolen an object of untold value from them, and, if Etta can find it, they will return her to her own time. Out of options, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the mysterious traveler. But as they draw closer to each other and the end of their search, the true nature of the object, and the dangerous game the Ironwoods are playing, comes to light - threatening to separate her not only from Nicholas, but her path home...forever.

Mixed feelings
This story has an excellent premise, and I enjoyed the world building a lot. The romance was overdone, however, and really isn't believable. I felt like it was just shoehorned in there, which made the passages dealing with it rather silly.
The narrator needs to check for the correct pronunciation of a number of words. A few words were even mispronounced in a variety of ways!
Don't think I'll move on to book two.
Confusing and boring.
I did not get attached to or care for these characters at all and the way the story was writen was confusing and there was a lot that did not make sense. It was boring and drawn out.
love the writer, but performance is a zoonzer
i am a truck driver and its important for me to stay awake through the night.
i have loved every book this writer has written, but the narrator puts me to sleep with the monotones and barely any voice changing. I couldn't even finish the book. even through the trilling parts of the story. I wanted to throw my phone out the window. which sucks because I'm sure this is a good book. I just can't get through it.
Love the author, but this was disappointing
Any additional comments?
It pains me to write this because the author's other series, The Darkest Minds, is one of my absolute favorites. That being said, this book was a struggle to get through. The character development was greatly lacking. The main character has her world torn apart and she just accepts it in the blink of an eye. No adjustment period needed.
The romance aspect was not terribly believable either. It progresses far too quickly to be genuinely invested in their story.
Time travel with a little romance
I always find the logistics of time travel a little confusing. This one was easy to understand for the most part but towards the end the logistics got confusing. The story is good, touching on several different time periods in history, possibly a little light on facts but this isn't actually a history book. What I had a hard time with was the insta romance.
