Passing on the Faith

Listen Later

This message confronts a sobering reality: three out of five young adults raised in church lose their faith during college. But rather than dwelling on statistics, we're invited to explore what truly sustains faith across generations. Drawing from Psalm 78, we discover that passing on faith isn't about fear tactics or purely logical arguments—it's about painting a picture of hope. The psalm reminds us that each generation should set its hope anew on God by remembering His glorious miracles and obeying His commands. This isn't ancient history; it's a living testimony. When we share stories of God's faithfulness in our own lives—not just last century, but last week—we demonstrate that God is actively moving today. The power lies in authentic living: our children and neighbors see through inconsistency faster than anyone. If we claim faith matters but never gather to worship, never give generously, never actually follow God's commands, our words ring hollow. The message challenges us to examine where we've placed our hope. Are we chasing the personas that trucks and clothing brands promise? Are we seeking security in careers and appearances? Everything we're striving for in this world is perfected in Christ. When we root our hope in God's authentic love—displayed perfectly on the cross—we find something worth passing on, something that won't disappoint or fade away like worldly treasures inevitably do.
