Every year in October, pastors find themselves in a unique time of the year. That time of year is Pastor Appreciation Month, or Week, or possibly for you just a specific day. Either way, there are good things and bad things that happen at this time of year.
I heard in a passing conversation once that ministerial staff has to be competent in over 60 areas while the average line worker in a factory needs to be competent in only 7. These competencies can range from writing a sermon, public speaking, pastoral counseling, marital counseling, pre-marital counseling, conducting a funeral, counseling grieving individuals, managing a staff, filing ministerial taxes, and the list can go on and on and on.
The problem exists when a pastor struggles to know if they are making a difference in people's lives.
So as a solution to that, Pastor Appreciation Month was created as an attempt to allow your local pastoral staff to feel as if they are making a difference in the lives of their congregation by receiving encouragement and thanks for their work. However, some gifts mean more than others.
In this episode of the Seats to Streets Podcast Host JR Horn and Co-Host Brian Gorman break down what Pastor Appreciation Moth is, Why it is looked down upon by some Pastors, and then their top three of the Best and Worst gifts to give you pastor this month!
