Pastor Dirk's Sermons

Thanksgiving and joy are wonderfully connected. One often gives rise to the other. When we intentionally focus on God's goodness and the blessings He has given us, our perspective begins to change. Rather than being consumed by the weight of our needs, we discover the freedom that comes from trusting God.
Psalm 100 reminds us that the foundation of our gratitude is not our circumstances but God Himself. We belong to Him. He made us. He loves us. He is faithful. And because of who He is, we can enter His presence with thanksgiving and praise. 

The Point: Belonging to God must become the ultimate source of our joy.

Next Steps: Let’s begin each day this week by thanking God that we belong to Him.

As the last book of the Bible closes, it presents us with an important choice.  We must decide whether John is telling us the truth about what God has planned for us and for our world.  This decision must then set a course for how we conduct our lives, our journey from here to there.
The Point: Sometimes faith is very simple. Either we trust Him, or we don’t.
Next Steps: This week let’s choose to trust Him more often.

Christ alone holds the key to our future, our transition from this life to eternity. He issues an open invitation to anyone who will come, to this life and the next with Him in His glorious presence.
The Point: Christ comes to open the way to paradise.
Next Steps: This week, let’s do one more thing and invite one more person to enjoy God’s version of paradise.

How things begin does not always reveal how they will end.  How we begin the journey does not always predict where we will end up.  In one important case, however, the beginning and the ending are the same.  The One who created the world will also determine its destiny.  The One who created us will likewise decide our end.
The Point: The One who created us also decides our future, so we can trust Him to take us there.
Next Steps: This week, how can God help me become a little more like the person He created me to be?

In times when ships displayed colors to declare their identity, enemies sometimes deceived one another by hiding their true colors.  John sees a time, coming soon, when the truth will come out, and people will be seen for who they truly are.
The Point: How we live determines whom we worship.

Our souls crave certainty,  We have been too often misguided, deceived and deluded. More information has not solved our problems. When John sees the vision recorded in Revelation, the precious city of Jerusalem was in ruins, razed to the ground by Roman forces.  However, God did not abandon His people.  John sees the Son of David returned to His glorious, eternal throne, and the kingdom forever restored.   
The Point: God will fix the world by fixing each of us.

The Scriptures begin and end in a garden, featuring a tree that has always promised eternal life.  That tree is still standing, and so are God’s people.  A family that began with one couple has now become a multitude.  How can this vision inspire us?   
The Point: Christ offers us the life we were always intended to live.

After returning from his travels, Pastor Dirk shares lessons learned during his time of rest and reflection.   
The Point: Paul’s prayer reminds us that God has given us potential, unlimited potential, right here in our little church, to make a real difference in a world that is racing to destroy itself. We make this difference when we come together on a regular basis to remind ourselves and remind one another that it is all about Him.

The closing scenes of Jonah’s story bring us back to the beginning, a place of refusal and rebellion.  Once more, God moves directly to call His prophet back on task.  Where are we in the process of engagement and evaluation?  How is God calling us to refocus on His will for lives?    
The Point: In our quest for justice and comfort, God calls us to prioritize mercy.
