Pastor Gabe's Articles

In 1 Corinthians 1:18-19, the Apostle Paul said, “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God. For it is written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning, I will thwart.'” […]

The following is a guest post from Tobby E. Smith, pastor of Memorial Baptist Church in New Castle, IN. My appreciation to him for taking the time to write this article and tackle the recent sermon plagiarism controversy. Sermon plagiarism is a hot button issue right now, especially in the wake of the Ed Litton […]

This past week on the podcast, we read through 1 Corinthians 3:10-11, where the Apostle Paul says the following: “According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For […]

In a special service on May 6, 2021, Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, CA, whose founding pastor is bestselling author Rick Warren, ordained the church’s first three women pastors: Liz Puffer, Cynthia Petty, and Katie Edwards. Saddleback is the largest church in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). In fact, the three largest Southern Baptist Churches […]

Pastor Gabe Somehow I stumbled onto all this vitriol about Beth Moore, someone I’d never even heard of before last week. Last week, on January 22, Dr. Tom Buck of First Baptist Church in Lindale, TX (full disclosure: he’s my pastor), said the following on Twitter: “I can’t imagine any truly God-fearing Israelite who would’ve wanted their daughters to view Jezebel as an inspirational role model because she was a woman in power.” The tweet quickly […]

At the start of Matthew 24, Jesus’ disciples were marveling at the temple and its buildings. Jesus had just issued His seven woes against the Pharisees for their false teaching, and He lamented over Jerusalem for killing the prophets of God. His disciples wanted to see the sights. Jesus said to them, “You see all […]

Proverbs 24:10-12 says, “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, ‘Behold, we did not know this,’ does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not He who […]
