Pat Chapman, a professional artist, has worked with Art From the Streets for 13 years, first as a volunteer and now as the studio coordinator. She talks about how she became an artist and how she uses her experiences and skills to mentor the artists at AFTS.
Art from the Streets is a nonprofit based in Austin, Texas. The mission of AFTS is to provide a safe and encouraging environment in which the positive spirit and creativity of those experiencing homelessness is nurtured through their own artistic expression. Because focusing on housing alone does not achieve other equally important goals that are relevant and motivating to improving and sustaining a quality of life. Original artwork is for sale in art shows throughout Austin, Texas. At these shows in the community the artist receives 95% of sales. Artists receive 60% of the final price of online artwork and merchandise sales. Shop online at Art from the Streets!
