Pat Scullion is the current manager of Lowland League side East Stirlingshire. He may have only been in the job approximately a year, yet is laying down the foundations to give the SPFL one of its most historic outfits back with a young team playing a defined brand of football. The real juice of this interview is his playing career, in which he pulled on many a jersey for many a club up and down the country. From starting out at Celtic, to his love affair with Cowdenbeath, the man from Dunfermline has well and truly seen it all in Scottish football. Besides the brilliant stories and insights regarding his time at club level, Pat shares eye opening realities of balancing work and play, and when footballing and occupational decisions collide.
My first bright and early start for the podcast was enjoyable. If you want experience at all levels of the Scottish game, Pat is your man. I pray The Shire like him as much as I do, and give him plenty of time to work his wonders at the club. A year older than Celtic, East Stirlingshire are one of the unlucky few to have fallen into the seemingly bottomless pit of the fifth tier from League 2. With Brechin looking like one of the first to really threaten a return, we hope they'll be following suit soon. A really interesting project going on down at the Falkirk Stadium, get along and support the lads if local (or afar). Pat is a tremendous credit to his club, I thank both greatly for the experience.
