Paths That Shine

“For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.”

— Psalm 18:21.

There are moments when the road feels too dark, when God seems distant, when nothing makes sense, and your strength is gone. Yet even in the middle of persecution, betrayal, and fear, David could boldly say, “I have kept the ways of the Lord.” To keep the Lord’s ways isn’t just about outward obedience — it’s about keeping your heart steady when everything inside you wants to give up. It’s choosing to keep walking when no one else understands your faith. It’s walking with God even when He seems silent.

The truth is, many young people walk away when life gets hard. They go after paths that look easier, faster, more “free.” But as God said in Leviticus, “If you walk contrary to Me… then I will walk contrary to you.” It’s strong language, but it’s real. When we choose to live far from God, we eventually feel the emptiness that comes with it. The thrill of sin fades fast, but its consequences can last a lifetime.

David understood this. That’s why he fought to stay on the path. Even when he failed, he came back — he wept, he repented, he started over. And because he returned, God lit his lamp again — He brightened David’s darkness and revived his hope. Maybe today you’re walking in darkness. Maybe your heart is tired, wounded, distant. But God still wants to light your lamp. He wants to be your light, your new beginning, your strength.

So look inside yourself right now and ask, “Have I truly kept the Lord’s ways, or have I slowly drifted away?” Don’t wait to feel ready. Come back today. Come back with a decision in your heart. God never rejects those who return with sincerity. He doesn’t need your perfection — He wants your presence. And if you decide to walk with Him again, you’ll see that even in the darkest moments, the path begins to shine.

Today, give God the parts of your life you’ve tried to control on your own. Say, “Lord, rekindle my light. I want to walk with You again.” And He will — not tomorrow, but right now.
