Patience vs. Complacence | Andrew Engel of Venzo Group

Listen Later

Jacob Harmon had the pleasure of talking with Andrew Engel, Co-founder of Venzo Group. Andrew dropped out of college to pursue his passions in life, and now runs a successful digital agency with the goal to elevate businesses and people alike. They talk about the value of college and schooling and whether or not it’s right for you. They have an insightful conversation about passion and finding your purpose in life, patience vs. complacence, delegation, culture, and more.

Enjoy!

Andrew’s Story

  • Andrew was studying medicine, but dropped out of college.
  • He worked for BMW for a little bit.
  • He went from a sales commission based job to a salary job.
  • He didn’t feel fulfilled in his job… sound familiar?
  • He took a risk and started his own company: Venzo Group

Thoughts on School

  • In some fields, like marketing, what school teaches can be antiquated.
  • Other fields, like becoming a doctor or lawyer, school is essential.
  • Before you start school, take a step back and figure out what you want to do with your life.
  • Make connections! Talk to people that are in the field. Shadow people!
  • AFTER you’ve done your research, decide if school is right for you.

Making your own path

  • If you want to be successful, you need to focus on you first.
  • Zone out other people and their opinions.
  • Pursue what makes you happy.
  • Put off immediate gratification for the future.
  • Put yourself in a position where you can grow.

Patience Vs. Complacence

  • LinkedIn post about Patience and Complacence
  • Are you doing what you're doing out of patience of complacence?
  • You have the ability to make an impact and a difference in the world!
  • Fulfill your potential! No regrets!
  • Take calculated risks when you can. Without risk there’s no reward.
  • It’s okay to be patient if you have a plan. As long as the things you’re doing are working toward a greater goal, you’re good :)
  • Do a risk assessment.
  • It takes time to build something great.

Success Tips

  • Surround yourself with good people
  • “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with”
  • Delegation - Find people that are better than you at specific tasks, and take them on.
  • Culture - Create a productive culture.
