This sermon addresses the reality that Christian life is a marathon not a sprint. Believers are called to patiently endure pain and suffering in this life pressing on in faith for the eternal glory that awaits.
It is a consequence of our perfect union with Christ through the Holy Spirit that we share in all that he is. This means we share in the riches of his glorious kingdom. However, it also means we share in his trials and tribulations.
These verses remind us that Jesus in his spectacular glory ministers to his universal Church in order to help us patiently endure. He does this by giving us the Holy Spirit to dwell in and help us. The Spirit in us testifies of the vital truth that Christ reigns victoriously over death now and forevermore. And he ministers by speaking to us powerfully through his living and active word.
