What would an X Files Halloween be without a visit from the faceless rebel aliens? For our final Halloween Redux installment of The K Files, agents investigate mythology alien abduction horror show, Patient X.

Though the scares are visceral, the plot can be a little dense: an alien race is ambushing en masse former alien abductees via some serious (literal) fire power, including the one and only Cassandra Spender (played by top notch working actor Veronica Cartwright), a woman claiming multiple abductions who wants to change the message about aliens to be more positive. Mulder, in full on skeptical mode at this point post Gethsemane arc, finds himself on the opposite side of Scully in a whole new way - Scully forms a bond with Cassandra over their shared abduction experiences and finds Mulder's new attitude frustrating. Always a fun time when we get Scully as the believer (cross reference with Revelations, Orison, the entire 9th season).

Patient X is a key mythology episode outside of the horrific imagery - it was the first episode to feature Chris Owens as Jeffrey Spender (aka Smokey, Jr.) and introduced Mrs. Smokey herself, Cassandra Spender. The two part concludes with episode, "The Red and the Black," also very scary, though the nightmare factory is really the first one.
