Dear me, who can say they have written a haiku, a few paragraphs of description, interviewed their own mother. Where to begin and where to stop?! I think I will leave it for the listener to hear, for this was an interview full of surprises and perhaps (for some) a bombshell, sweetly delivered and then questioned, as an aside to a discussion regarding her, what, conversion? Dedication? To the Catholic faith soon after I had left home for medical school in the early 1990s. Guess it had to come out some time mum!
One of the surprises for me was in how fast and how comfortably my Mum dropped into the role of interviewee. To the manor borne some would say. Perhaps there’s a lesson for many of you inherent in this: our parents may have hidden stories, facets, skills and thoughts. Dive into them before it is too late. When I have told others about Heliosphere and then mention that I interviewed both my Mum and my Dad the response has been uniform: what a great thing to do. Voices, thoughts and stories recorded for posterity, before it is too late.
Thanks Mum, for my life.
Now finally, along with all Douglas Adams’ written works (Google if you’re not familiar with him), please tell me:
Psalm 23.
The Island by Victoria Hislop.
My wedding ring plus my mums ring.
Fureys, Red Rose Cafe
Over.
