Patrick Mullins was bred for success in the racing industry being a son of former top amateur rider and multiple Champion National Hunt trainer Willie, a nephew of successful National Hunt trainers Tony, Tom and Mags, and a grandson of one of the great National Hunt trainers, Paddy. He claimed the title of Champion Amateur Rider for the first time in 2007/8 season. In 2012, he beat the record of 72 winners for an amateur rider in a calendar year which had been set by Billy Parkinson in 1915, setting the new mark at 74.He set his sights on Ted Walsh's record of 545 winners when claiming his 400th success on Pearl Diamond at Tramore on August 16th, 2015 and reached that figure when winning the mares' maiden hurdle on the card at Limerick on Saturday, July 14, 2018.
