I personally know coach Ebes from my time playing for him at Capilano University straight after high school. Since our time together he has moved on to coach at Langara and win provincial and national titles and its been amazing to see his much deserved success at the highest levels of Canadian basketball. One of the many topics we talked about is the topic of how to pick a collegiate school to attend and it is one which is not talked about enough. All young hoopers who are hoping to play basketball beyond high school should take a close listen to this episode
Here's a short bio about coach Ebes:
Coach “Ebes” eats, breathes and lives basketball. He has been head coach for the Langara Falcons for the past 10 years and he also helps coach the Senior Boys team at West Vancouver Secondary and he still finds time to be on the board of directors for the BC High School Boys Basketball Association.
Over his amazing career he has coached at all levels of basketball including high school, college, Provincial Team and even the National Team. He guided his RC Palmer Griffins to the ultimate title in BC High School Sports as they won the “AAA” BC Championships back in 2011. He then followed that up with back to back PACWEST titles in 2013 & 2014 and he led the Falcons to their first National title in 15 years beating Red Deer in the finals in 2014.
He is one of only a handful of coaches who has taken three different teams to the BC High School Championships (Magee, McNair, & RC Palmer). Prior to the Falcons, he also guided the Capilano Blues to a PACWEST championship and National Final Four in 2003. Ebe has been very involved in the BC Elite program having been the head coach on 10 occasions winning six Western Canadian gold medals and a National silver medal. This summer he will lead the BC U18 team when they travel to Niagara for the Canada Games.
In our conversation we delved into:
- What great lessons can sports teach us about life
- What it means to be accountable as a high level athlete
- The importance of failure on the road to success
- How to make the best decision regarding where to play collegiate basketball after
high school
And much, much more!!
Enjoy!
