Born Giovannie Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini on September 26, 1897 in Concesio, Lombardy, Italy to Giorgio Montini and Giudetta Alghisi and had two brothers.

Montini entered the seminary in 1916 and received the Sacrament of Holy Orders on May 29, 1920. He also received a doctorate in canon law.

Pope Pius XII made Montini Archbishop of Milan and Pope John XXIII elevated him to the Cardinalate.

After John XXIII's death, the sixth ballot of the conclave elected Montini Pope and he took the name Paul VI on June 21, 1963.

Paul VI is known for the completion and implementation of the Second Vatican Council and for his encyclical Humanae Vitae.

On August 6, 1978 he died and Pope Francis canonized him on October 14, 2018. Pope John Paul I succeeded him.
