Pay It Forward METHANE Presentation and Podcast

Listen Later

This podcast explains about fossil fuels, in particular natural gas, which is primarily composed of Methane. Natural gas was formed over millions of years through the decomposition of organic matter that gets buried and subjected to heat and pressure deep within the earth. This process converts the organic matter into hydrocarbons, which are compounds composed of carbon and hydrogen.

We also talk about the natural gas extraction process, how methane is emitted into the atmosphere through both natural and human activities, and how methane affects the environment, including the Greenhouse Effect. The various uses for methane are discussed, including the role that LNG (liquefied natural gas) can play in energy markets and to meet energy needs and diversify energy sources.

US natural gas power plants are also discussed and the US natural gas supply, including the abundance and often wasteful practice of gas flaring as there are many countries that are natural gas deficient. Among other topics, the podcast also addresses ways to reduce methane emissions, what role citizens can play, particularly regarding food waste.
