The primary goal of urban beautification is to create a pleasant and visually appealing urban landscape that promotes a sense of pride, well-being, and community among residents and visitors. Urban beautification can encompass landscaping and green spaces, street furniture and lighting, public art, facade improvement, infrastructure enhancement, and or graffiti and litter control. Urban beautification is needed for aesthetic appeal, quality of life, economic development, social cohesion, environmental benefits, safety and security, and preservation of heritage.

Baltimore has struggled with a very high number of vacant and abandoned properties for many years. Pay It Forward's goal is to replace these vacant lots and homes with public spaces to benefit the community. By removing these dangerous, unattractive, unsafe, and trash and rodent-infested properties with green spaces, we will foster a sense of community pride, promote physical and mental wellbeing, contribute to environmental stability, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
