Peace is part of the focus of the Fruit of the Spirit, so this is an important concept to pursue.
God has called us to live in peace with everyone, as much as we are able. But how do we find it when there are important issues and problems? This podcast addresses an incident between Abram and his nephew, Lot. They had a serious problem because the men tending their flocks were beginning to fight one another. Territorial disputes started to happen because they both had so many flocks.
This could have been a big problem, but Abram’s skills shone through. And we can learn what he did as well as why he did it. Using these principles, we can learn how to prevent trying situations from becoming worse. We can even find peace!
“Peace” is a Necessary and Important Skill
Conflict management is an important skill set to learn. According to Forbes, it is the number one “soft skill” that businesses will look for in the future. Thankfully, the Bible has been teaching these skills for thousands of years!
Peace means more than what is found inside ourselves. It’s also about more than our relationship with God. It also includes peace with others. In fact, if we are not better relationships with others, we are not going to be right with God.
So what are those requirements and principles?
It Begins with Faith-Reasoning
Faith-reasoning is not another method of reasoning. It involves a different set of information. That information is from the Bible and the principles taught therein.
We must use proper reasoning in order to find peace.
That means:
* Bible-based information.* Priorities-based information.* Spiritually-based information.* Sacrificial-based information.
Four Principles to Lead to Peace
In Genesis 13 we can see four principles at play that lead to peace when things could have escalated easily.
* Recognize the Problem for what it is.* Decide to create a solution.* Make the solution beneficial to the “other side”.* Take the lead and make the sacrifices needed to create peace based on the priorities involved.
Hopefully this will help all of us when we face challenging situations. We should be looking for ways to improve our relationships, recognize the value those relationships possess.
