Peaching Sense

Rufus Peabody and I discuss a series of topics that are at most only indirectly related to sports betting, including things like randomness, self-awareness, identity and mindfulness.

Podcast #25 - Episode From My Brother's Podcast - with Kevin Meiselman by Matt Meiselman

Podcast #24 - Communicating Effectively About Our Differences - with Jordan Rosenblum by Matt Meiselman

Derek Carty is the creator of the MLB projection system known as THE BAT, available at Rotogrinders.com and also through Fangraphs.com. We break down some of the core predictive issues in sports betting and DFS, common misconceptions, and potential solutions. We mostly focus on baseball, but touch on some other sports as well.

Jordan Rosenblum and I discuss the value of life, mathematically! (kind of). Inspired by a Sam Harris conversation with anti-natalist David Benatar, we talk about the symmetry/asymmetry of good and bad, the distinction between non-existence and death, and many more fascinating subjects...

Former Trackman associates Aidan Hanlon and Ben Drozdoff join the Preaching Sense Podcast for a discussion that alternates between very unique baseball commentary and a breakdown of some of the hardest parts of playing daily fantasy sports.

Ben Drozdoff joins yet again as we check in on the early stages of the MLB season. We discuss swinging strikes, traditional views, bullpens, managing rosters, and just a little bit of a math. Bunts are bad, defense doesn't matter #Moneyball.

The Preaching Sense Podcast returns after a brief hiatus with an episode about the mind. Jordan Rosenblum joins for a discussion about anxiety, depression, mental health, and drugs.

Some meaningful and/or meaningless things to clarify:

-Some of our arguments seem to change and evolve as the conversation progresses. This is a normal thing in human interaction. Don't draw finite conclusions about our arguments until you reach the end. Or do. But know that these initial thoughts may not represent what we really mean. This topic is more nuanced than most.

-A lexicographer is a person who compiles dictionaries. You are now a better lexicographer for knowing this.

-Neither of us view mental disorders as concrete conditions (in most cases) but rather much more dynamic "disorderly states" that can adapt, change, worsen, or even dissipate. I am currently confident this is the correct way to view issues of the mind, but am open to new information...

On this episode, friends of Preaching Sense (Daniel Stermer, Brett Altman, and Jordan Rosenblum) recap a trip across Europe.

We talked about our tumultuous journey to Denmark, a Spanish festival called Las Fallas, and also some of the differences between the American political system and Scandinavian political systems. Our friend Jordan is a bit of an expert on this last subject. Lots to learn!

Sterm and I talk to fellow Terp Ryan Goldfarb about his new real estate business: Berry Lane Partners. We cover Ryan's background and path to starting his own unusual career, animosity towards nine to fives (classic), taking control of your own life, Terps basketball, sports betting, and more!
