Peak Vs Notch Lapel
Peak Vs Notch lapel, that is a conversation many of us have had with each other and even more of us have had internally. When you have you have your first suit made it might even be a question that comes up with your tailor. If you don't know the answer beforehand you are taking a crapshoot on your style.
It just so happens that dana is strongly in the notch lapel camp and Jai is firmly planted in the peak lapel camp. Of course, the two of them wear both lapels at different times but they are 90% in one camp of peak vs notch lapels.
The notch lapel, which can also be called a step lapel or step collar is much more of a classic look, especially in American tailoring, it creates a clear notched appearance in the lapel. It is widely considered to be a much more casual lapel than peak or shawl which is why it's almost always the standard on a single-breasted suit. and can on rare occasions be seen on a double-breasted suit.
The peak lapel, also referred to as the peaked lapel and pointed lapel is a far more formal variant of a suit and is the default for a double-breasted jacket and even a single-breasted tuxedo. When a single-breasted jacket is fitted with a peak lapel it's considered to be a more formal jacket.
