Pennsylvania adopting data analytics strategy to prevent student suicides

According to a 2015 report by the Department of Health and Human Services, more than 3 million adolescents ages 12-17 reported at least one major depressive episode in the past year, and more than 2 million reported severe depression that impeded their daily functioning. Most state statistics mirror these national rates but Pennsylvania is using data analytics to identify mental health issues among school children. Dr. Perri Rosen a psychologist and special education teacher at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services, joined Ask the CIO: SLED Edition with host John Thomas Flynn. She discussed how the agency is using a Garrett Lee Smith Youth Suicide Prevention grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
