Acts 1:1-3
For 40 days on earth after his resurrection, Jesus continued to speak about the Kingdom of God.
Acts 1:4-8
The promise of the Father, the baptism of the holy spirit, would be coming. They were to wait. Moreover, once the holy spirit came, they would receive power and were to witness to the remotest part of the earth.
Acts 1:9-12 – The ascension – Mount of Olives
Acts 1:13-15 – The disciples stayed in an upper room. Besides the twelve, there were about 120 disciples before the day of Pentecost.
Acts 2:1 – On the day of Pentecost, they were all together in one place – most likely the Temple (the house of God).
Luke 24:45-53 – “Repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all nations.” They were continually in the Temple praising God.
Acts 2:2-4 – There appeared tongues as of fire distributing to each of them. Fire from heaven demonstrates God’s acceptance of sacrifice, as well as His presence.
Fire Came Down:
• Tabernacle – Leviticus 9:22-24 Fire came down – during the first month (Ex 40:17; Nu 9:1-5 Feast of Passover). The LORD’s anointed (Meshiach) priest offered sacrifice.
• David (the LORD’s anointed, Meshiach) the king offered sacrifice at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite/Mt Moriah (1 Chr 21:14-18, 26-30; 22:1-2). Fire came down. David begins planning for the construction of the Temple.
• Temple – Mt Moriah (2 Chr 3:1); 2 Chronicles 6:12-42 – Dedication of the Temple. Solomon (the LORD’s anointed (Meshiach) and the priests offered sacrifice, and Solomon prayed. 1 Chronicles 7:1-5 Fire came down – during Seventh Month (2 Chr 5:3; 7:8-10 Feast of Tabernacles).
• Feast of Pentecost – Acts 2:1-4 In Herod’s Temple in Jerusalem. The LORD’s anointed, Jesus the “Meshiach,” at the right hand of God as King/Priest, sent for the promise of the Father, the holy spirit. God could now dwell with His people, the temple,
At Pentecost, God could now dwell with His people, being sanctified by the blood of Christ and cleansed by the spirit of truth, which Jesus had promised. Acts 7:44-50; 1 Cor 3:16; Heb 9:1-15; Heb 10:11-23
Gentiles – Now included – this was always was God’s desire (Nu 9:14; 2 Chr 6:32-33; Is 11:10; 49:6; 60:3; Zec 2:11), but no Gentiles received until Acts chapter 10. In Herod’s Temple, there was a wall of separation for the Gentiles. No Gentiles were allowed beyond the wall. In Acts 21:27-28, Paul was accused of bringing Gentiles into the Temple area, beyond the wall.
Ephesians 2:11-22 Jesus broke down the barrier of the dividing wall. We are now the dwelling place of God!
