Matt 12:9 Man w/ withered hand
● People are more important than your opinion,
your religion, your hypocrisy, and your animals
Luke 18:9 Also He spoke this parable to some who
trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and
despised others: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to
pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11
The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I
thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners,
unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 12 I fast
twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ 13 And
the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much
as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying,
‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man
went down to his house justified rather than the other;
for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he
who humbles himself will be exalted.”
● There are two people groups represented in this
parable. One who thinks they are right with God
because of their actions...and one who asks God
for help because they know they aren’t right
because of their actions.
○ We have a religious person and a lost
person.
○ We have a Pharisee and a tax collector.
○ We have someone doing things their own
way, and someone doing things God’s way.
○ We have someone who is justified, and
someone who is not.
○ We have someone who is exalted by
themself, and someone who is exalted by
God.
● Justification comes from the Lord...you don’t earn
it...you don’t get to choose who gets it...you don’t
get to give it to yourself.
○ Justification - The action of one being made
righteous by God.
○ Someone who is completely forgiven and
pleasing to God as if sin never existed.
○ Someone in right relationship, not right
behavior.
Luke 10:25 Good Samaritan
● Religious Lawer - wanting to “justify himself”
