  • People Pleasing: The Price of Being Liked

You say yes when you want to say no. You show up, make the effort, and try not to disappoint anyone. Then you find yourself feeling resentful when other people don't do the same for you.

But what if the hardest person for a people pleaser to disappoint isn't everybody else? What if it's themselves?

In this episode of People Untangled, I'm admitting something about myself: I think I'm a people pleaser. Not because I can't speak my mind or stand up for myself, but because sometimes I care more about being liked, included, and valued than I'd like to admit.

We're pulling apart the guilt that comes with saying no, the invisible scoreboard we sometimes keep in relationships, and how our unspoken expectations can turn generosity into resentment.

We'll also explore why changing our behavior doesn't necessarily change what we believe about ourselves—and the complicated difference between being needed and being genuinely wanted.

Because maybe the challenge isn't just learning how to say no.

Maybe it's learning that we can say no and still be someone worth saying yes to.

    Let's untangle this.

What's harder for you: saying no, or feeling guilty afterward?

  • Everyone Knows Who the Problem Is

Everyone knows who the problem is. So why is everyone else doing the adjusting?

In Episode 3 of People Untangled, Sandy Kaminski pulls the thread on what happens when one person’s behavior becomes everyone else’s responsibility—at work, in families, and in relationships.

The careful wording. The extra work. The things nobody says because they already know how that person will react.

When does keeping the peace start costing you too much?

  • Did You Choose This Life—or Just Keep Going?

Some of the biggest decisions in your life are the ones you never actually made.

You didn’t choose to stay. You just didn’t leave. You didn’t choose that career again. You just took the next logical job. You didn’t choose to become the person everyone depends on. You were good at handling things—and everybody got very comfortable letting you.

Then one day, you look around at a life that makes perfect sense on paper and think:

Wait. Did I choose this? Or did I just keep going?

In this episode, I’m pulling the thread on the lives we build through momentum, the identities we create around being capable and needed, and why the “responsible” choice isn’t always the right one.

I’m also talking honestly about the question I’ve been facing in my own life: return to the familiar—or believe I’m allowed to build a third option.

This isn’t about blowing up your life. It’s about noticing where you stopped choosing—and giving the person you are now a vote.

If someone came to mind while you were listening, share this episode with them. Not as a hint. We’re not doing passive-aggressive personal development here.

  • Why You Keep Over-Explaining Yourself—and How to Stop

You gave the answer. So why are you still talking?

Over-explaining isn’t always about clarity. Sometimes it’s an attempt to manage someone else’s reaction, comfort, approval—and even the silence after you stop talking.

In this episode, Sandy pulls the thread between over-explaining and over-functioning, why every reason can become a handle for someone else to grab, and what it looks like to finally let a clear answer stand.

What might happen if you stopped after the answer?

  • Episode 0: Welcome to People Untangled

Welcome to People Untangled—real conversations about work, life, relationships, and the complicated business of being human.

In Episode 0, host Sandy Kaminski shares where the show came from, how decades in HR and leadership shaped the questions she asks, and why the hardest human situations rarely come with tidy answers.

This is not an HR podcast or a five-step formula for fixing people. It’s a place to examine what’s really happening underneath our conversations, boundaries, relationships, decisions, and repeated patterns—at work, at home, and everywhere in between.

Some episodes will be solo conversations. Others will feature interesting humans with something real to untangle. Expect honesty, complexity, occasional strong language, and plenty of humor—because human beings are complicated and sometimes ridiculous.
