Perfectionism is something that I have grappled with most of my adult life. Feelings of not being good enough, black and white thinking, obsessive compulsions and comparison have been constant companions for many years.

It's a trap many of us fall into and at times it's hard to unravel these behavioural patterns and adopt a more positive approach.

Shelley Laslett is a neuroscience coach, social scientist, international speaker and also has a lived experience with perfectionism.

In the first of two parts, Shelley discusses that we don't ever stop being a perfectionist, but you can learn how to handle the negative elements of it and adapt them to become more positive, how any strengths overplayed can become a weakness, awareness is the key with any form of understanding self, the difference between adaptive and maladaptive perfectionism and how the people younger than 35 feel that perfectionism is engrained in their identity.
