Maybe you're a high achiever like myself and have set high expectations to uphold a 'perfect' image. You want to be seen as strong, capable, intelligent, and in control. But this comes at a price--its costing you time and energy (both mental and emotional)
For me it was the hyper-focus on details and obsessing over small things in fear of making mistakes and looking stupid. I would end up avoiding doing something all together, or constantly putting off starting, because I didn't feel I was "enough".
These traits often come from how we were raised, especially being a young daughter of a narcissistic mother. It was this standard of perfect that I could never reach that had me feeling insecure and afraid.
In this episode I break down 3 Root Causes of Perfectionism:
1. Fear of failure
2. Fear of not being enough
3. Fear of being out of control
And describe the top two ways to start moving out of Perfectionista -Trap-
First being releasing the harsh judgments on yourself (as well as others). The less you judge yourself the more you can move with peace and ease, despite how stressful a situation may be.
Secondly, having more compassion for yourself. Reinforce what you truly desire (learn, grow, express, create, etc) and stay aware of the voice in your head that wants to protect you. Thank that part of you and decide the new story--the one of truth and belief.
I invite you to take an oath with me today to bring more love and compassion into your whole being and start letting go of the image of perfection that is keeping from be at peace with yourself, genuinely happy and proud of yourself.
