Many of us have been hard wired to believe that we need to put everyone else's needs first. We’ve been hard wired to believe that this is what we have to do in order to be a good wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, human, etc. I know this was the case for me and for most of the women in my life.
In fact, I did everything I could to be a good human. I worked harder. I did better. I did my best to take care of others and to try and do what made them happy. And yet, all the while I was mystified.
If I was such a good human, then why?
Why was nobody ever giving back to me the way I was giving to them?
Why was everyone around me excelling and being recognized for everything they did, while I was being left behind, unseen and unheard, to clean up the hot mess?
Why was I filled with so much anger and resentment at the end of the day?
Until I made one decision that would change everything. The decision to put myself first.
