In this episode, I unpack why I deliberately speak in “I” rather than “you” or “we”—a practice I learned through Wayshowers College group work to keep my sharing authentic, non-imposing, and free of projection. I explore the difference between advocacy with consent (others can speak for me at times) and personal responsibility (only I can speak for my own thoughts, feelings, and needs). From a funny but real “I’ve-gotta-pee on a group ride” moment to everyday conversations, I show how leading with my needs, finding my voice, and taking up space—without guilt—creates balanced, 50/50 relationships. I offer a practical reframe for advice (“If I were in your shoes, I would…”) and a simple group technique that keeps everyone speaking from their own center. The through-line: words carry energy; when I own mine, I stay clear, respect autonomy—mine and yours—and communicate in a way that actually helps.
