Adam is a personal trainer/weight loss "wizard", author of the book "How to Melt Body Fat Without Diets or Gyms", and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach (learn more here- https://www.instagram.com/thedietdestroyer). Maybe no surprise, but Adam's value was "personal development." He spoke in depth about his personal journey and how he got to a point where the focus of his life is about developing and improving and trying to help others to do the same. To be honest, I was interested in this conversation because there are so many "weight loss wizards" or trainers who are more gimmick than substance. I wanted to try to understand Adam better and see what made him believe he knew how to help people overcome a challenge that has plagued the world for centuries. I didn't care as much about the specific diet or weight loss steps, but more about the person he is and how he thinks.
In the process of getting to understand him, I learned how growing up with a single mom who modeled the importance of work ethic shaped him. But then he spoke about a time in his life where he tried 8 different jobs in 2 years, got fired, and lost his way; he lost those values of work ethic and personal growth. Getting to hear him talk about those times and what it really felt like, the underlying emotions and thoughts, and ultimately what brought him to where he is today was really insightful. Typically people don't want to acknowledge the miss steps or mistakes a long the way, but to me that is the most important part. That is especially true when they don't explain them in a superficial way that makes them sound heroic, but rather in an authentic way that shows they are human. That was what I loved about this conversation and I hope you all enjoy it as well.
