In this podcast I discuss an article I wrote for the Daily Maverick, and published on 8 May 2018, where I reflect on the state of race relations in South Africa. I make a number of observations in this podcast regarding where South Africa is at on race relations and what needs to be done. I open by stating that race relations in South Africa have worsened. The euphoria that marked the country's democratic transition in the early 1990s is gone. The traces of apartheid social legacy remain etched in socio-economic conditions of the majority. There are signs that the country's politics will become more radicalised in the coming years unless we take seriously the importance of genuine conversation about the future and that government takes emphatic steps in addressing the socio-economic plight of the majority of South Africans.
