Peter Devine is CEO of Uniseed, a venture fund operating at five east coast Australian research organisations. Uniseed focuses on pre-seed investment and backs researcher-led start-ups. They have been exceptionally successful with eight of Uniseed’s portfolio companies exited in deals with a total value of over $2bn, generating funds that flow to the researchers, their research organisations and to other investors. Peter discusses the Uniseed model and the vital link between early-stage investment and unlocking publicly funded research for commercial outcomes and to stimulate innovation.
