On March 10, Pastor Jim preaches on Matthew 16:13-23.
This Sunday we are starting a series of sermons titled “The People of Lent.” The schedule is as follows:
This Sunday: “Peter”
March 17: “Mary and Martha”
March 24: “Woman with the Jar and Judas”
March 31: “Malchus, servant of the High Priest”
April 7: “Procla and Pontius” (husband and wife)
April 14: (Palm Sunday): “Jesus”
Simon Peter was a complicated person, an enigma. He was strong, yet weak; insightful, yet foolish. He could be a strutting blowhard, yet he was chosen by Jesus, who literally “petrified” him. Jesus changed Simon’s name to “Cephus,” which in Aramaic means “rock.” The New Testament, written in Greek, calls him “Petros.”
As we begin our journey through Lent, we will think together about Peter and what his life has to teach us.
