The decile funding system for schools is here to stay - but an education consultant is disappointed.

The government has scrapped plans to replace the system with targeted per-child subsidies.

Now, new decile and funding rates for schools will take effect in 2020.

But Education Consultant Peter Gall told Larry Williams he is disappointed in the move and the decile system needed to go.

"The whole decile system has been recognised as one of the worst things we do in the education system actually. You know, I think the overt labelling of schools based on a socioeconomic factor hasn't done us too much justice really."
