Trial by Ordeal proves that many of us use the word 'ordeal' loosely. Trial by Ordeal was a past list of punishments handed down by the court to determine guilt or innocence through dangerous/deadly means in most cases. And the only way to be deemed innocent was if God performed a miracle of sorts.
