PGP-687 VKORC1 Gene Genetic Mutation In Rats & Resistance to Second Generation Rodenticides Rattus Rattus
The National Wildlife Research Center is conducting groundbreaking research on genetic mutations in rats that confer resistance to second-generation rodenticides. This study is being led by Dr. Niam Quinn and Dr. Toni Piaggio.
The focus of this study is on the VKORC1 gene, which is responsible for producing the VKOR enzyme. This enzyme plays a crucial role in the blood clotting process, and it is also the target of many anticoagulant rodenticides. By identifying mutations in the VKORC1 gene, the researchers hope to better understand how rats can develop resistance to these toxic substances.
