PGP-699 Introducing the Goodnature A18 Trap: A Game-Changer for Squirrel Control

Listen Later

Welcome to "Living the Wildlife", a podcast that discusses all things related to vertebrate pest control. As part of the "Pest Geek Podcast" family, we provide information and advice on how to manage pests safely and responsibly. Please note that Wildlife Control Consultant LLC, Pesgeek Podcast, Living the Wildlife Podcast, and Stephen M Van Tassel, or any of their affiliates, are not responsible for the use of the information provided in this podcast. In this episode, Stephen Van Tassel introduces the "Good Nature A18" trap, which is a larger version of the A24 trap designed for squirrels. He discusses the similarities and differences between rats and squirrels and how the A18 can provide additional flexibility in capturing squirrels. However, he emphasizes that this is not a toy and may not be legal in all states. Therefore, it is important to follow national, state, provincial, and local laws when using pesticides or other control methods to manage pests. In addition, Stephen talks about how to set up the Goodnature A18 self-resetting trap, as well as some concerns and potential solutions. He starts by demonstrating how to attach the trap to a post, tree, or wall with the provided cover. He then explains that the trap needs to be about four to five inches off the ground to allow squirrels to stand and get their heads inside. Alternatively, it can be placed against a tree or secured with a stick to avoid damaging the tree bark. Stephen also mentions that Goodnature will likely release additional equipment, such as a bait station, for this trap. He expresses his excitement to test it out and encourages viewers to share their own experiences and videos of the trap in the field. However, Stephen also brings up a concern regarding pets, such as raccoons, cats, and dogs, which could be attracted to the trap's bait and inadvertently trigger the piston, causing harm. He suggests placing the trap in elevated areas with a platform to prevent pets from getting hurt. He also explains how the Goodnature A18 counter can be used to keep track of how many times the trap has been triggered, although a trail camera can also be used for this purpose. Overall, Stephen sees the Goodnature A18 trap as a useful tool, especially for those who live in areas with few restrictions on trapping. He believes it is a valuable addition to the Goodnature A24 trap, which he has previously discussed in another podcast.
