Pivot To Prosperity: Work Less... Make More!

Philippine Engineer Turned Stock Trader Leaves All to Be a Real Estate Investor- Jon De Los Reyes

Listen Later

Jon De Los Reyes and wife Michelle are immigrants from the Philippines and business partners.

Jon was present for the interview.  His career started as an auto manufacturing production engineer for one the largest automobile manufacturers in the world. His salary was five dollars a day and it was a major struggle to make ends meet.

Jon moved to the U.S. and loved the opportunity to make more and do more.  He returned to school to get an MBA, joined a fund management group and analyzed stocks for investors.
15:40: He said it usually took 15 hours to properly analyze a stock and one tweet or contrarian mention on social media could render all the time wasteful and if change in value exceeded 5%, he would need to start over analyzing the stock. He did not like the lack of predictability.

At the end of his degree program, Jon took a class for entrepreneurs and got hooked immediately. He knew he would want to invest in real estate and started with single family homes, and launched an Amazon business to build cashflow to support the real estate business.  Financial challenges required they sell some personal property, but most heart wrenching for Jon was his race car.

As luck would have it, a couple distant relatives needed help one Christmas night not far from Jon and Michelle's home in 2021.  Something they posted on FB caught Jon's attention and he reached out.  That brought Jon, Michelle and the relatives together to share a Christmas meal and have a life-transforming talk.  The relatives were traveling in a nice RV, untied to a regular job.  They said their income from investing in apartments paid for the RV, and that impressed Jon and Michelle.  They immediately saw how much faster they could reach their goals by doing the same.  Jon and Michelle started investing in apartments, both passively and actively in January 2022.  In less than 1-year, they had ownership interests in 1,400 apartments (800 passively, 600 actively) and are so glad they dove in to buying apartments.

25:55 This proves that it is true, you can be one person away from a major life transformation for the good.

Jon and Michelle are now looking at potentially buying assisted living property in addition to the apartments, mainly to be sure their grandmothers are taken care of.  They were essentially raised by their Grandmothers, so it is something they want to do.
